Complain that none of your friends will go with you? Here’s your chance. Steamboat Climbing Community (SCC) handles the ropes and setup. Come meet some other local climbers. Bring ropes and anchor to help setup (if you have it) – beginners welcome but this is informal and not a clinic, expect to belay – we will work with newbies – kids welcome but need adult supervision and belay – this is a great opportunity to climb once a week with new locals. Meet at Butcherknife Canyon in Stehely Park. Call/email with any questions. Kids/Teen Climbing Camp Dates: Sat, July 24th – Summer Blues Camp Fri, Aug 6th – Back to School Camp Time: 9am – 5pm Cost: $75 / Group Size: 4-8 climbers Ages: 8-12 / 12 - 17 A fun day of climbing for kids and teenagers looking to try something new. Learn the basics and work on climbing technique. Includes equipment, transportation and lunch. Meet at Backcountry Provisions. Sign up by two days prior. Women’s Evening Climbing with Jen Lowe Date: Every Monday Time: 5:15 – 8:15pm Cost: $20 cash/check only Practice climbing and belaying under the supervision of a guide in these evening clinics. Woman only. Prereq: belaying experience. Sign up by calling Jen Lowe, 846-6377. Climbing Basics / Top-Rope Set-Up Date: Sun, July 25th Time: 8am – 6pm Cost: $100 Covers safety, belay technique (rope handling), commands, knots and climbing technique, as well as, setting up, taking down, and climbing on safe top-rope (gym) anchors. Sign up by noon Thursday before clinic. SCC DOMES DAY Date: Sun, Aug1st Time: 8am -Dark/Rain Join a few seasoned Domes climbers for a tour of the Sarvis Domes off Buffalo Park Road 100. Informal, for experience climbers looking for first hand beta. Meet at Ski Haus at 8am. Call/email for more info. Lead / Traditional Climbing Date: Sat, Aug 7th & Sun, Aug 8th Time: 8am – 6pm Cost: $200 (for both days) Progress from top-roping to lead climbing bolted sport routes and begin to understand placing your own protection. Day one covers lead belay technique, lead climbing, and cleaning a route. Day two covers the basics of placing traditional protection (cam’s), belay anchors and multi-pitch rope systems. Prereq: climbing basics. Sign up in advance, space limited. SCC BBQ Date: Sat, Aug 21st Time: 4pm Butcherknife – Stehely Park Come join other climbers to celebrate the end of the summer.
